Braves Urged to Reunite with 2021 Postseason Hero

Braves Reunion? Joc Pederson Could Be Back in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA ⁢- The Atlanta Braves⁣ are looking‍ to bounce back after a disappointing ⁢postseason exit in 2024. While ⁢General Manager Alex Anthopoulos has indicated the payroll will increase, he’s⁢ also emphasized a desire to avoid exceeding the second tier of the luxury tax. This could lead the Braves to ⁣target value signings ⁤in free agency, and one name keeps popping up: Joc‍ Pederson.

Pederson, a fan favorite from his memorable 2021 World Series run with the Braves, enjoyed a productive season with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2024. He slashed an notable .275/.392/.531 with 22 home runs in 407 plate appearances,⁤ primarily serving as a designated ⁤hitter in a platoon role.

“Joc did a ‍pretty good job for the ⁣Diamondbacks in 2024 with an impressive .275/.392/.531 slash line and 22 homers in ‍407 plate appearances,” wrote FanSided’s Steven Teal. ⁢”He functioned in a platoon role and was mostly a designated hitter.‍ The Braves need to decide if they believe he’s good enough to play the field still before making a decision.”

The Braves⁢ have publicly expressed interest in adding a left-handed bat⁣ this ⁣offseason, and Pederson certainly fits the bill. He’s projected to earn a two-year deal worth around $26 million,⁢ according to Spotrac.

However, Pederson’s defensive limitations could⁢ pose a challenge. He appeared ‍exclusively as a designated hitter ⁤in 2024, and the Braves already have Marcell Ozuna occupying that role. While Ozuna can play the‍ outfield in a pinch, he’s become a defensive liability, seeing only two outfield appearances in 2024.Despite the‍ defensive concerns, Pederson’s offensive production ⁢and familiarity ⁢with the braves organization make‍ him an intriguing option. His “Joctober” heroics during the 2021 postseason, where he hit three home runs and drove in nine runs across the NLDS and NLCS, are still fresh in the minds of Braves fans.

Weather the Braves are ⁢willing to overlook Pederson’s defensive limitations remains to be seen. But one ⁣thing is certain: a reunion with the fan-favorite slugger would undoubtedly generate excitement in Atlanta.
