Grant Structure and Funding Tier Limits

According to program guidelines published on the Bravo Greater Des Moines website, applicant organizations cannot request a specific dollar amount. Instead, award sizes depend on verified organizational expenses from the most recently completed fiscal year, application merit, and Bravo’s available funding.

For applicants with prior year expenses ranging from $5,000 to $200,000, awards generally target 5% to 20% of actual expenses, up to a maximum annual award of $30,000. Organizations with expenses between $200,000 and $2,000,000 are eligible for target awards of 5% to 15% of actual expenses, capped at a maximum annual award of $150,000. Larger organizations with a three-year average operating expense exceeding $2,000,000 receive awards based on a percentage of total funds available to that tier, up to a maximum of $500,000.

Review Process and Disbursement Schedules

Bravo’s Community Investment Committee evaluates all submitted applications and forwards funding recommendations to the Bravo Board of Directors for final approval, as detailed in portal documentation. Applicants must carefully review official guidelines detailing eligibility requirements and submission directions.

Approved grant awards are disbursed through structured payment schedules. Organizations receiving standard awards get funds distributed in two equal payments in January and July, or four equal payments in January, April, July, and October, depending on their funding tier. Awards totaling less than $1,000 are sent in full during January.

Bravo officials note that grant amounts depend entirely on local government partner funding stability. Any termination, reduction, or delay of funds from Bravo’s local government partners may result in a corresponding reduction or delay of grant awards.
