Colombia’s Central Bank Expected to Raise Interest Rates in January
Colombia’s central bank,the banco de la República,will hold its first monetary policy meeting of the year tomorrow,January 30,2026,and financial markets anticipate an interest rate hike of at least 50 basis points. This increase would return the rate to the level seen in November 2024.
A Citi survey conducted in January 2026 gathered forecasts from financial institutions and think tanks regarding the central bank’s interest rate adjustment. Of the 25 entities surveyed, 17 predict the Banco de la República will raise the rate by 50 basis points to 9.75%, while only five expect an adjustment to 9.5%.
Anif, a Colombian think tank, is among those forecasting a moderate rate increase.They indicated that the decision reflects current economic conditions and expectations for inflation.
