Brazil’s national football team bounced back in the South American qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, securing a 1-0 victory over Ecuador’s national team in the seventh round of the competition on Friday evening (Saturday morning GMT).
Real Madrid star Rodrigo scored the decisive goal in the 30th minute, unleashing a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that deflected off defender William Pacho before hitting the crossbar and finding its way into the net.
This win marked Brazil’s first victory after a string of three consecutive losses in qualifying matches against Uruguay, Colombia, and Argentina.
With this triumph, Brazil climbed to fourth place, increasing their score to 10 points. Meanwhile, Ecuador suffered their first defeat, dropping to sixth place with 8 points after three wins and two draws.
In other matches, Uruguay tied 0-0 with Paraguay, securing 14 points in second place, while Paraguay earned 6 points in seventh place. Peru drew 1-1 with Colombia, with Peru taking the lead through Alexander Callens’ goal in the 68th minute, only for Colombia to equalize with Luis Diaz’s goal in the 82nd minute.
