Brazilian Hiker Dies After Fall on Indonesia‘s Mount Rinjani

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A Brazilian tourist, Juliana Marins, 26, has died after falling hundreds of feet from Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in indonesia. Her death follows a four-day search.
Marins was hiking on Lombok island’s Mount Rinjani, a popular destination for trekkers and the country’s second-tallest peak, on June 21 when the accident occurred. She was with a guide and five other tourists when she fell nearly 2,000 feet, according to Indonesian authorities.
Mohammad syafii, head of Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency, confirmed that no signs of life were found. Marins’ family in Brazil also confirmed her death.
Using a thermal drone, the Indonesian rescue team located Marins’ body near a crater after an intensive search hampered by harsh terrain and weather. Arduous conditions delayed the evacuation.syafii said the team carried her body to Sembalun basecamp, awaiting transport to a police hospital.
