Brazilian President Lula Discharged After Brain Surgery, ‌Returns ⁤to Work

Sao ​Paulo, Brazil ⁤ – Brazilian President Luiz​ Inacio Lula da⁤ Silva was⁣ released from a Sao Paulo hospital Sunday, just days after⁣ undergoing emergency surgery for a⁢ brain ⁢hemorrhage. The 79-year-old leftist leader surprised‍ reporters by making a brief appearance⁣ at a news conference held by his medical team at Hospital Sirio-libanes.

“I am here in⁣ one piece… returning home,” lula said, walking unassisted and sporting a ⁢fedora-style hat.Lula underwent triumphant surgery Tuesday to relieve pressure on his brain caused by a hemorrhage. The condition stemmed⁤ from a fall he⁣ suffered in ⁢October at his presidential ‌residence.

“The president can resume activities but will need to take it​ easy for​ 15 days,” said ‌cardiologist Roberto Kalil. “The only ​restriction is physical exercise.”

This latest health scare ⁣adds to⁣ a list of medical challenges lula has faced in recent years, including treatment for throat cancer in 2011 and a​ hip replacement surgery last year.
