“I am here in one piece… returning home,” lula said, walking unassisted and sporting a fedora-style hat.Lula underwent triumphant surgery Tuesday to relieve pressure on his brain caused by a hemorrhage. The condition stemmed from a fall he suffered in October at his presidential residence.
“The president can resume activities but will need to take it easy for 15 days,” said cardiologist Roberto Kalil. “The only restriction is physical exercise.”
Another doctor, Ana Helena Germoglio, noted that Lula’s recovery has “exceeded expectations.”
Known for his tireless work ethic, lula’s unexpected appearance at the news conference underscored his determination to return to his duties.
The medical emergency began last Monday when Lula complained of a headache while in Brasilia. An MRI scan revealed a hemorrhage between his brain and the protective dura mater membrane, leading to his immediate transfer to Hospital Sirio-Libanes, Brazil’s premier medical facility.
Following his October fall,Lula initially scaled back his schedule, skipping planned international trips. however, by mid-november, he resumed his active role, hosting the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro and attending a mercosur summit in Uruguay.
This latest health scare adds to a list of medical challenges lula has faced in recent years, including treatment for throat cancer in 2011 and a hip replacement surgery last year.
