Brazil’s Lula in Good Condition After Brain Procedure, Expected to Leave Hospital Soon
Brazilian president Lula Undergoes Accomplished Brain Procedure, Expected to Make Full Recovery
São Paulo, Brazil – Brazilian President Luiz Inácio lula da Silva underwent a successful procedure early Thursday morning to address a brain hemorrhage, his medical team announced. The 79-year-old leader is expected to make a full recovery and could be discharged from the hospital as early as Tuesday.
The minimally invasive procedure, which lasted approximately one hour, involved inserting a catheter through Lula’s groin to seal off a leaking artery in his brain using a gelatinous substance.
“Neurológically, he’s perfect, great, talking,” said neurologist Rogério Tuma, reassuring the nation about the president’s condition. Lula only required sedation, not general anesthesia, for the procedure.
This latest medical intervention follows Lula’s emergency surgery on Tuesday for complications stemming from a fall he suffered on October 19th at his official residence. The fall resulted in two hematomas, one of which required surgical drainage.
Lula’s personal physician, cardiologist Roberto Kalil, emphasized that while Lula’s hospital discharge is expected soon, he will need a period of relative rest and stress avoidance.
“He’s already sitting, talking, eating, and walking around,” Kalil said, adding that Lula will be able to gradually resume his presidential duties upon returning to the capital, Brasília.
Lula’s absence from the political scene comes at a crucial time, as his government is engaged in negotiations with Congress on key issues such as spending cuts and tax reform. While Vice President Geraldo Alckmin has been filling in for Lula at public events,he is not directly involved in these high-level political discussions.
for now, visits from ministers and advisors are restricted, with only Lula’s family allowed to see him. This latest health scare follows previous surgeries Lula underwent since his election victory in 2022, including the removal of a throat nodule and the implantation of a hip prosthesis.
