According to CNN and the New York Times, the suspect who attempted to assassinate former US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been identified as Ryan Wesley Rouse, a 58-year-old man living in Hawaii.
The New York Times reported that the suspect in the assassination attempt at Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, was calm and not showing any particular emotions. Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw stated that Secret Service agents were clearing potential hazards ahead of Trump’s golf outing when they found an AK-47 about 400 to 500 yards away from the former president.
Agents engaged the gunman and fired at least four rounds. The suspect then fled the scene but was apprehended on I-95. The incident occurred on the afternoon of the 15th (local time).
According to the New York Post, the suspect, Ryan Wesley Rouse, was a left-leaning advocate who bragged about his good deeds on social media. Rouse graduated from NC State Agriculture and Technology University but moved to Hawaii around 2018.
Rouse has not posted on social media X (formerly Twitter) for about a year, but in his past posts, he frequently criticized politicians such as former President Trump, President Joe Biden, and celebrities such as Bruno Mars. Rouse also encouraged Republicans Vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley to not drop out of the presidential race.
Former President Trump stated in an email to donors after the incident, “There has been a shooting near me, but I wanted to get this out to you before the news gets out of control. I am safe and well.”
This incident is likely to be recorded as the second assassination attempt on former President Trump. The political world is paying attention to the impact this second assassination attempt will have on the results of the presidential election on November 5th.
Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris condemned this incident through X, saying, “Violence has no place in America.”
