Construction Law Update: Canceling the 2021 Decision and Reinstating the 2008 Law

Minister of Housing Announces the Cancellation of the 2021 Decision and the Reinstatement of the 2008 Construction Law

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, the Minister of Housing, Urban Facilities, and Communities, announced the cancellation of the planning and building requirements issued in March 2021. The Building Law No. 119 of 2008 and its executive regulations will be reinstated, as per the directive of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The Minister emphasized that the height of the requirements contained in the strategic and detailed plans, approved zoning regulations, and requirements, and approved agency lines will be complied with. The commitment to implement buildings and facilities in accordance with the Egyptian Code will be maintained, particularly for the ground and first floor of residential buildings located on the street and commercial and administrative activities whose width exceeds 10 meters.

Ministerial Resolution No. 943 was issued earlier on September 3, amending the Executive Regulations of the Construction Law. The amendments include changes to sections 110 bis, 112 bis, and 117 bis, which will be applied to the Local Administration of the Governorate Units.

Construction and Building

Nafisa Hashem, Supervising Engineer of the Ministry’s Housing and Utilities Sector, explained that the efforts to simplify and shorten building permit issuance procedures aim to motivate citizens to obtain building permits and establish a healthy and safe building environment. This will contribute to the achievements in the construction and urbanization sectors, which support and drive the most important sectors of the state.
