Former Public Administration Minister and former Member of Parliament from Meherpur-1 Constituency Farhad Hossain has been arrested by RAB. A team from RAB-2 arrested him from the Iskaton area of the capital on Saturday night (September 14). There are several cases of murder against him in Dhaka and Meherpur.
RAB spokesman Lt. Col. Munim Ferdous told Ajker newspaper that RAB arrested former minister Farhad Hossain from the capital’s Iskaton district in connection with the shooting and killing of students during the student anti-discrimination movement on August 5.
On 9 September in Meherpur Jamaat leader Tariq Md. 10 years after the killing of Saiful Islam, a case has been filed against 19 people including former Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, the then Superintendent of Police (SP) Nahidul Islam.
In the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Sharmin Nahar of the Court of District and Sessions Judge Meherpur, the younger brother of the deceased Tawfiqul Islam filed the case as a plaintiff. The court took notice of the case and ordered the OC of Sadar police station to take a statement.
Apart from this, RAB said that there is a case against Farhad Hossain in Dhaka.
Farhad Hossain was born in 1972 in Meherpur. His father Chahiuddin Biswas was the foundation president of Meherpur district Awami League and the organizer of the liberation war. He was the then Member of Parliament from Kushtia-5 (now Meherpur-1) Constituency. In 2022, Chahiuddin received the Freedom Award posthumously.

Farhad Hossain was a student of Khulna BL College. Later he passed MA in English Literature from Dhaka University. Later, he became an associate professor in the English Department of City College in the capital. In 2014, he was elected MP from Meherpur-1 constituency in the 10th National Parliament Election. President of Meherpur District Awami League in 2015.
Farhad Hossain became Minister of State for Public Administration in the cabinet formed after the 11th National Assembly elections in 2018. He was elected from the same seat in the 12th National Parliament election and became Minister of Public Administration.
Farhad Hossain’s wife Syeda Monalisa Islam Shila is the niece of national leader Syed Nazrul Islam.
