Chinese Olympic Committee Vice Chairman Speaks Out on National Football Team’s Poor Performance

The Chinese national football team has reached a new low in the FIFA world rankings, sparking concerns among fans and critics alike. According to the latest rankings, the team is now ranked 91st in the world, a significant drop from its previous position.

The team’s poor performance has been a subject of discussion, with many pointing to the recent 0-7 loss to Japan and 1-2 loss to Saudi Arabia in the World Cup qualifiers. These defeats have led to a decline in the team’s ranking, which is now at its lowest point in eight years.

Yu Zaiqing, a member of the International Olympic Committee and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Olympic Committee, has spoken out on the issue. In a recent interview, he emphasized the challenges faced by the national football team, citing the sport’s unique characteristics and the need for a larger player base.

“Football is different from basketball and volleyball,” Yu Zaiqing said. “It’s very difficult. One of the reasons is that China’s football population is very small compared to the national population. The results of choosing one in ten thousand and one in a million are definitely different.”

Yu Zaiqing also highlighted the lack of a competitive environment and the technical gap between Chinese players and their European counterparts. “Due to the insufficient number of football players in general and the lack of a competitive environment, Chinese players are far behind European players on the technical level,” he explained.

Despite the team’s poor performance, Yu Zaiqing urged fans not to criticize the team excessively. “Don’t always criticize the Chinese football team,” he said. “Our level is indeed inferior to others, but we need to work together to improve the sport and provide more opportunities for our players to develop.”

The Chinese national football team’s ranking is a concern for fans and officials alike. However, with the right support and development, the team can work towards improving its performance and climbing the rankings in the future.
