Retired General’s Actions Spark Controversy
According to reports, Zhang Yuxia, a retired general and former chairman of the Kuomintang’s Huang Fuxing Party Committee, attended an event in Hong Kong and stood up to hear the Chinese national anthem. This action has sparked controversy and raised questions about the retired general’s loyalty to Taiwan.
The Ministry of National Defense has responded to the situation, stating that if the retired general’s actions are found to be in violation of the “Regulations on Relations between People in the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area,” he may face penalties, including the withholding of his monthly discharge pay and the cancellation of his honors and medals.
The Ministry of National Defense also emphasized that if the situation is serious, the retired general may be deprived of his monthly discharge benefits and his honors and medals may be canceled. Additionally, if he is found to have committed crimes of internal strife and foreign aggression, he will be punished under the National Security Act and other relevant laws.
The Ministry of National Defense has stressed that the retired general’s actions will be dealt with in accordance with the law if found to be true after investigation.
Consequences of Violating Regulations
The “Regulations on Relations between People in the Taiwan Area and the Mainland Area” prohibit retired generals from participating in party, government, and military activities organized by the Mainland. If a retired general is found to have violated these regulations, they may face penalties, including the withholding of their retirement allowance.
In addition to the withholding of retirement allowance, the retired general may also face other penalties, including the cancellation of their honors and medals. The Ministry of National Defense has emphasized that the consequences of violating these regulations will be severe and will be dealt with in accordance with the law.
