On Oct. 22, 2026, the Simón Bolívar Autonomous Center for Amazonian Research and Control of Tropical Diseases (SACAICET) marked its 44th anniversary by hosting a scientific outreach campaign in Puerto Ayacucho, Amazonas state, combining tropical disease surveillance with breast cancer awareness initiatives, MPPS reported.
The agency, which operates under the Ministry of Popular Power for Health (MinSalud), coordinated public health events across multiple municipal locations to bridge the gap between institutional research facilities and local communities in Atures municipality.
Scientific Outreach and Public Health Education at SACAICET Headquarters
The anniversary and outreach deployment opened with a clinical scientific cafe session at the SACAICET headquarters in Puerto Ayacucho. The educational gathering served patients from the specialized tropical medicine outpatient service, offering direct instructional sessions regarding regional endemic pathogens and oncological prevention during Pink Month.
During the pedagogical session, Dr. Diamelis Ramírez detailed primary risk factors, warning signs, and proper breast self-examination techniques for attendees. Following the presentation, breast cancer survivor Mercedes Mongues shared her personal medical history and recovery to emphasize the necessity of routine clinical checkups.
Public Health Demonstrations and Student Delegations at Paseo Atures
Complementing the indoor sessions, research staff and medical personnel established a technical guidance booth at Paseo Atures, located along 23 de Enero Avenue in Puerto Ayacucho. Scientific brigades distributed informational literature detailing clinical care programs, active research lines concerning jungle endemic pathologies, and regional biomedical advances.

Separately, mippci.gob.ve reported that SACAICET welcomed student delegations from the Universidad de las Ciencias de la Salud (UCS) and the Universidad Nacional Experimental Rómulo Gallegos (UNERG) to tour key institutional departments. Health science students observed parasitological diagnostics, direct microscopy handling, and vector control operations, connecting classroom instruction with Amazonian public health challenges such as water quality evaluation and nutritional diagnostics.
