Brest Pokémon Card Sales Regulation: “Attraper les tous!” Initiative
Pokémon Fans Fight Back Against Scalpers with Community-Driven Approach
Pokémon card enthusiasts are taking matters into their own hands to combat teh practice of scalping – the rapid purchase of limited-edition items with the intent to resell them at inflated prices. A new organization, known as “ALT” (an acronym for “Catch them all!”), formed in Brest, france, is directly challenging these speculators by securing stock and distributing it more equitably among genuine fans.
Building a Fairer Ecosystem
ALT operates by forging partnerships with local retailers. Currently, the group collaborates with E. Leclerc Toys in Gouesnou and King Cadeau in Guipavas to reserve a portion of their Pokémon card inventory specifically for its members. This reserved stock is then distributed through a lottery system, ensuring a fairer chance for collectors to acquire sought-after items.
The association aims to “create a more virtuous ecosystem,” according to a representative. Beyond securing product, ALT fosters a community through bi-monthly card exchange fairs. These events provide a space for collectors to trade, connect, and have their cards professionally appraised – potentially uncovering hidden value in existing collections.
This grassroots effort highlights the growing frustration within the Pokémon collecting community regarding limited access to products and the impact of market manipulation. By working directly with retailers and prioritizing genuine fans, ALT offers a potential model for addressing the challenges posed by scalpers and preserving the enjoyment of the hobby.
