The Big 12 Conference has extended Commissioner Brett Yormark’s contract through 2030, the league announced Tuesday. The Big 12 board of directors approved the extension, rewarding Yormark for his efforts in stabilizing and modernizing the conference.
Yormark, who initially signed a five-year deal in 2022 set to run through 2027, has overseen importent changes within the Big 12, particularly following the declaration of Oklahoma and Texas’ departures in 2021. His leadership has been marked by an aggressive approach to deal-making and a focus on enhancing the conference’s profile.
Among Yormark’s key achievements are securing a new television deal and expanding the conference by adding four new schools. His early move to negotiate with Fox and ESPN resulted in a six-year, $2.28 billion agreement,positioning the Big 12 ahead of the Pac-12 during media rights negotiations. The pac-12’s subsequent struggles led to Colorado,Arizona,Arizona State and Utah joining the Big 12.
Yormark also played a role in integrating UCF, BYU, Cincinnati and Houston, who had previously agreed to join the conference. while the Big 12 has explored further expansion, it has not pursued additions such as Connecticut and Gonzaga.
