Brevard College Celebrates One of Its Largest Graduating Classes at 2026 Commencement

The ceremony, held at Ives-Lemel Family Field, saw 144 bachelor’s students and a record 41 master’s students receive their degrees.
During the event, Dr. Bradley J Andrews, President of Brevard College, addressed the graduates, stating:
Graduates, you’ve made it. For years, you’ve been working with this day in mind, and This represents the moment where we celebrate all of your determination and hard work. We celebrate your attainment of a noble goal.

Institutional Leadership and Recognition
A central component of the ceremony was the presentation of the Lifetime Leadership Award, which is the highest honor granted by the institution. The award recognizes a legacy of commitment to the Brevard College community, shared leadership, and service.

The 2026 award was bestowed upon David and Lynne Joyce, who served as President and First Lady of the college from 2012 to 2021. According to the institution, their tenure guided Brevard College through a transformative period characterized by resilience, growth, and an increased commitment to its mission.
The Lifetime Leadership Award is designed to commemorate exceptional embodiment of the college’s core values and outstanding civic leadership, aligned with the institutional motto Learn in Order to Serve
.
This marks only the second time the honor has been presented since its inception. The inaugural recipient of the award was Ray Henley, a longtime supporter of the college, in 2024.
Commencement Proceedings
The proceedings began with a processional of graduates in black regalia, accompanied by bagpipes. The event was formally called to order by Chief Faculty Marshal Dr. Mary Louise Bringle.
Following the opening address by President Andrews, The Rev. Dr. Sharad H. Creasman, the campus minister for Brevard College, delivered an invocation. Heath Weldon ’75, who serves as the Chair of the Board of Trustees, provided greetings on behalf of the board.
The presentation of awards was conducted by President Andrews and Dr. Jennifer Frick-Ruppert, the Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
