Brewers’ Pitching Depth Surprises, Fueling Playoff Hopes

Despite ‌a rough start to⁤ the season and meaningful injuries to key pitchers, the Milwaukee Brewers find themselves in the thick of the National League playoff⁢ race. The⁢ Brewers’ ⁤pitching depth, once a concern, has become a ‌surprising strength.

The Brewers’ ⁣rotation⁤ has defied expectations, ⁤posting the second-best ERA in the NL. This is despite missing⁢ key⁢ players like Brandon Woodruff, DL Hall,⁣ and ‌Robert Gasser. Newcomer Nestor Cortes also ⁣suffered ⁤an early injury.

However, the emergence ⁢of pitchers like Logan Henderson, who⁣ had a stellar start to his major league career, and Jacob ⁢misiorowski, dominating in Triple-A, has provided a boost. The Brewers also hope for a fast return from Woodruff, ⁤who has been sidelined with injuries.

Freddy ⁣Peralta has anchored the staff, while Jose Quintana⁢ has provided⁤ reliable innings. Aaron ⁢Civale and Tobias ‍Myers ⁤have also shown promise when healthy. The ‍acquisition‍ of Quinn Priester from the Red Sox‌ has also paid ⁢dividends.

Perhaps the biggest surprise has been Chad Patrick. The 26-year-old righty, acquired⁢ in a trade, has ⁤become a key contributor. Despite lacking a dominant breaking ball, Patrick’s ability to ⁢manage contact has been crucial to his success.

The Brewers’ success with Patrick⁢ highlights their ability to develop pitchers with ordinary raw materials into effective major league starters. His average exit velocity allowed is in the league average range, but he limits hard fly-ball contact.

The Brewers beleive in their ability to prevent runs through ⁢strong defense and ⁤affordable⁣ pitching. Chad Patrick is the latest⁢ example of this strategy.

What’s next

with a strong offense and a pitching staff exceeding expectations, the Brewers are⁣ well-positioned to contend for a playoff spot ‍throughout ‌the season.
