Brewing Upset: Seattle Dethroned as America’s Top Coffee City
Ranking of the Best Coffee Cities in the U.S.
Portland, Oregon, has taken the top spot as the best coffee city in the U.S., followed closely by San Francisco, California. This ranking is based on a comprehensive evaluation of 12 key factors, including the number of coffee shops in each city.
The ranking was conducted by WalletHub, a personal finance information company, as part of their annual survey of the top 100 cities across the country. The survey aimed to identify the best coffee cities in the U.S. ahead of American Coffee Day.
The evaluation criteria included coffee-related spending per household, the number of coffee manufacturers, coffee consumption per adult, the percentage of households owning a coffee maker, and the number of coffee shops with a consumer evaluation of 4.5 stars or higher. Other factors considered were the number of coffee shops per population, the number of coffee shops providing free Wi-Fi, and the number of coffee enthusiast groups.
Seattle, which is home to the headquarters of Starbucks, the world’s largest coffee chain, ranked first in the nation in coffee-related spending per household and in the number of value-for-money coffee shops per capita. However, it fell to third place with a score of 65.06. Portland, Oregon, took the top spot, while San Francisco, California, came in second.
The survey results confirm that Seattle is a coffee-friendly city, with a high ranking in several categories. However, Portland’s first-place finish proves that Northwest America is the best coffee region in the country. On the other end of the spectrum, Laredo, Texas, was ranked as the worst coffee city.
Interestingly, the survey found that 67% of Americans drink coffee every day, and the coffee market in the U.S. is estimated to be worth a staggering $49 billion.
