Artistic Vision and a Call to Action
The production design for the concert is being led by es Devlin, who is collaborating with Palestinian visual artists, including malak mattar, to create a stage that reflects the richness and beauty of Palestinian culture. “Palestinian painters are producing some of the most powerful, lovely and resonant works I have witnessed,” Devlin stated. “I feel honoured to collaborate…on a stage that will express the rich beauty of Palestinian culture.”
The impetus behind the concert is a direct response to the escalating humanitarian crisis. Brian Eno powerfully articulated the urgency of the situation, stating, “In the face of the horrors of Gaza silence becomes complicity. Artists have always helped societies to point out injustice and imagine better futures. That’s why this concert matters. It’s time for us to come together-not just to raise our voices, but to reaffirm our shared humanity.”
Damon Albarn, known for his work with Blur and Gorillaz, echoed this sentiment, expressing his deep concern over the unfolding events. “I,like everyone with a heart, have felt despair and helplessness…A genocide unfolding in real time on our screens,” he said. Albarn, raised in a pacifist family, emphasized that pacifism is not passive, but requires active commitment to peace and humanity. He added, “Music has taken me around the world…I am grateful for this opportunity to act in solidarity with the Palestinian people and also celebrate the music and culture from the region.I hope everyone will join us.”
