Brian Wilson, Beach Boys’ Musical Genius, Dies at 82
Brian Wilson, the co-founder and frontman of the Beach Boys, has died at age 82. The surviving original members of the band have shared tributes to Wilson, acknowledging his profound impact on music history. Wilson’s family announced his death Wednesday, but did not specify a cause.

Al Jardine, a fellow Beach boy, told BBC Radio 4 that Wilson was “a humble musical giant” whose “huge musical intellect was apparent quite early on.” Jardine added that Wilson should be remembered as “a real gentleman, a real musical intellect, who taught the world how to smile.”
The Beach Boys, formed in Hawthorne, Calif., by wilson and his brothers Carl and Dennis, along with cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, achieved immense success, selling over 100 million records.Wilson penned numerous hits, including “I Get Around,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” and “good Vibrations.” His innovative use of the recording studio,especially on the album “pet Sounds,” cemented his reputation as a music pioneer.

Wilson’s personal life included struggles with mental health. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 1984 and, later, dementia in February 2024. He was married to Melinda Wilson for 24 years until her death in 2024. They adopted five children together. Wilson also had two daughters from a previous marriage.

Mike Love said Wilson’s “musical gifts were unmatched” and had “changed the course of music forever.”
