Alpine F1 Team Unfazed by Renault CEO Departure,Focus Remains on Team Role

The Alpine Formula One team‌ will ⁤not be affected by the departure of Renault CEO Luca de Meo,according to Flavio Briatore,the team’s de ⁢facto principal. De Meo is reportedly leaving Renault to head the‍ luxury group Kering.

briatore, who previously led Benetton and Renault to Formula One titles,⁢ returned to the sport ⁣last year as an executive adviser. He has​ been⁤ managing the team since Oliver Oakes’ resignation as principal. Alpine currently sits at the bottom of the Constructor’s standings.

When⁤ questioned about the impact‍ of De Meo’s departure at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Briatore stated it would change ‌”Nothing, absolutely nothing.” He added, “Nothing‌ changed for me. Not for me or the team. And ⁢congratulations to ‍Luca, new job.”

Alpine’s future ⁢strategy involves ⁤a shift to Mercedes power units‌ for the upcoming season. Renault decided last September to cease⁤ engine production‍ at its Viry-Chatillon factory,a ‍move driven by cost considerations. De Meo noted in October that internal engine production cost Renault about $289 million annually, while sourcing from another manufacturer would cost less than $20 million.

The team’s ownership group ​includes ⁢notable figures such as Hollywood actor Ryan Reynolds and NFL stars ​Patrick ⁣Mahomes and Travis Kelce. ⁤Alpine is currently the only team utilizing Renault power units.
