Bridging the AI Divide: Korea Takes the Lead with Groundbreaking Legislation

Global Cooperation in AI Development: A Necessity for⁣ a ⁢Digital ‍Shared Prosperity Society

Competition in AI development is intensifying globally, with countries protecting their domestic data and ‌investing heavily in AI technology. ​However, experts emphasize‍ the ‌need ‌for global cooperation to prevent the abuse ⁤of AI technology and ensure a digital shared prosperity⁢ society.

Robert Trager, Director of AI ⁣Governance at Oxford University’s Martin School,‌ highlighted the importance of global cooperation in AI development during his special⁣ lecture at⁢ ‘AI World 2024’. He pointed out that AI nationalism is occurring worldwide, with countries like the ‌US and China investing ⁣heavily in ‍AI technology to reduce their dependence on other countries.

Trager emphasized the need​ for legitimate international standards to prevent the abuse of AI technology. He suggested introducing incentives for countries that adopt these ⁣standards, such as ⁣excluding ⁣AI⁢ products from countries that violate international standards from their ⁢domestic markets.

Yeom Yeol, Director ⁤General of the ‌Ministry of Science and​ ICT’s Information and Communication Policy⁢ Bureau, also emphasized the importance of global​ cooperation in AI development. He highlighted Korea’s strengths in AI competitiveness, ranking third in⁢ the world, and the government’s efforts to strengthen global AI competitiveness while ensuring technological safety.

Yeol emphasized the government’s goal of ‌pursuing technological innovation while ⁢realizing a digital shared prosperity ​society. He outlined the government’s plans to introduce AI into ‍daily life, ​build AI computing resources and infrastructure, and enact a basic ⁢law on AI to strengthen the country’s⁢ AI competitiveness.

The Korean government aims to work closely with the National Assembly and ⁤the public and ‍private sectors to make a ⁤leap forward‍ as‍ one of the ‘Big 3 AI countries’.‍ With ​the rapid evolution of‌ AI technology, global cooperation is essential to ensure a digital shared prosperity society where all members of society can enjoy the ⁣benefits of AI.
