Scientists in China have developed a ‍new approach to creating all-inorganic perovskite films for light-emitting diodes (LEDs), achieving unprecedented brightness and longevity. The team from the University of ⁣Science and Technology of China ‍(USTC), led by Prof.Xiao Zhengguo, published their findings in ‍ Nature.

Their strategy⁤ focuses⁤ on weakly space-confined, large-grain crystals. By adding hypophosphorous acid and ammonium chloride to the perovskite material and using a high-temperature annealing process, they created thin films with ⁢larger crystalline grains and‍ fewer defects. This process suppresses ⁣non-radiative recombination and reduces ion migration, boosting the stability ⁤and brightness of the perovskite films.

The resulting perovskite LEDs (PeLEDs) exhibit ⁣a luminous efficiency exceeding 22%, comparable to commercial displays. They reach a maximum ⁣brightness of⁣ 1.16 million nits, substantially higher than typical commercial LED screens. Furthermore, these PeLEDs can theoretically operate for over 180,000 hours ⁣at a normal brightness of 100 nits, meeting commercial standards.
