A Brighton man, Johnny Jose Moreno, 52, is accused of first-degree murder in connection to the death of Victor Ibarra, 34. The fatal stabbing occurred May 22 at the Eastgate Village mobile home park, reportedly following an argument about paying for a phone. The Brighton stabbing is under investigation.
Brighton police responded to a call at approximately 5 p.m. and discovered Ibarra with multiple stab wounds to his chest and abdomen, according to the arrest affidavit. A bloody kitchen knife was found at the scene.Ibarra was transported to Platte Valley Hospital, where he died around 8 p.m.
Witnesses told police that moreno arrived at the residence armed with a small aluminum bat and initiated a confrontation with Ibarra. During the altercation, Moreno allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Ibarra repeatedly, even after a witness attempted to disarm him.
Witnesses recounted that Moreno, after being briefly stopped, allegedly slammed the knife into a kitchen table, declaring he was “made for this.” The dispute reportedly centered on Moreno demanding if Ibarra would “pay for the phone,” to which Ibarra refused. Authorities learned Moreno had previously stolen Ibarra’s car keys.
Following the stabbing, a witness, fearing for her safety, drove Moreno and his girlfriend to Aurora. Moreno is currently in custody with bail set at $2 million. He is scheduled to appear in Adams County District Court on July 1.
