BRIN Appoints New Research Professors – Five Disciplines
BRIN Appoints Five New Research Professors, Bolstering Indonesia‘s Scientific Excellence
Jakarta, Indonesia – The National Research adn Innovation Agency (BRIN) has significantly strengthened its scientific cadre by appointing five new research professors, bringing together a diverse range of expertise spanning soil fertility, butterfly biosystematics, epidemiology, geo-bio-physical information extraction, and electrochemistry. The inauguration ceremony, held in Jakarta on Wednesday, was hailed by BRIN’s Deputy Head, Amarulla Octavian, as a “concrete form of BRIN’s positive contribution in achieving excellence in Indonesia’s human resources.”
Octavian emphasized that an increasing number of professors signifies a nation’s superior civilization and technological advancement. The newly appointed professors represent a important leap forward in BRIN’s mission to drive innovation and address critical national challenges.Among the distinguished appointees is Professor A. Arivin Rivaie, a leading expert in soil fertility and plant nutrition. His extensive research focuses on fertilizer land management and soil amendments, with a particular emphasis on phosphorus fertilizer submission in acidic drylands. Professor Rivaie’s work highlights the direct use of natural phosphate as an option phosphorus source, enhanced by organic matter and phosphorus-solubilizing microbes,to develop sustainable, natural phosphate-based fertilizer products.
Djunijanti peggie, now a research professor, specializes in butterfly biosystematics and conservation. Her groundbreaking research contributes to a deeper understanding of biodiversity and conservation efforts in Indonesia, significantly advancing butterfly studies. Professor Peggie has also made notable discoveries, identifying three new species and two new subspecies of butterflies.
Professor Woro Riyadina, an expert in the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases, brings her extensive knowledge in epidemiology and biostatistics to BRIN. Her primary research area is the epidemiology of non-communicable diseases, approached through a biopsychosocial framework. This research has been instrumental in developing a cardiovascular scoring system for stroke and coronary heart disease among Indonesians aged 25 and above. Octavian noted that this predictive model, visualized as a cardiovascular risk card, has been recommended to the Director of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry of Health, offering valuable insights for stroke prevention programs across Indonesia.
further bolstering BRIN’s capabilities is Professor Parwati, an expert in geo-bio-physical information extraction techniques for terrestrial environments. Her research is dedicated to smart monitoring utilizing satellite remote sensing technology, with the overarching goal of improving the management and prevention of forest and land fires in Indonesia.
Rounding out the new appointments is Professor Aris Mukimin, a specialist in electrochemical technology. professor Mukimin has achieved significant advancements in developing electrochemical technology, employing both sacrificed and unsacrificed electrodes across three distinct reactor models. This innovation is poised to make ample contributions to the creation of a clean water ecosystem within Indonesia.
“Becoming a professor is not just a symbol of achievement, but a form of recognition for skill, professionalism, and ongoing, deep dedication in the fields of science and technology,” Octavian concluded, underscoring the profound impact these appointments will have on Indonesia’s scientific landscape.
