Defenders Darragh Joyce and Luke Beecken have departed the Brisbane Lions as the club confirmed its first off-season roster cuts, afl.com.au reported. Joyce spent six seasons with St Kilda before joining Brisbane, where he played 14 games across four seasons.
Beecken joined the Lions as a mid-season draftee in 2024 and departs after two-and-a-half seasons at the club. He played his one and only AFL game against Fremantle last year.
Future Plans for Youngsters
Alongside the departures, the club announced that young key defender Luke Lloyd and young forward Koby Evans, who was drafted last year, have been delisted with a clear plan for their immediate return. The club has committed to re-signing both players at the Telstra AFL Rookie Draft next month.
Tributes and Off-Season Changes
Lions footy boss Danny Daly acknowledged the departing pair following the announcement. Darragh and Luke have both made a valuable contribution to the Brisbane Lions and have been highly regarded teammates during their time at the club,
Daly said.

Darragh’s experience, resilience, and willingness to put the team first have been greatly appreciated, while Luke has shown strong development and application throughout his time in our program. We thank them both for their tireless effort and commitment to the Club and wish Darragh, Luke and their families all the best for the future,
Daly added.
The roster changes follow a busy period for Brisbane, which already farewelled four players—Lachie Neale, Sam Marshall, Will McLachlan, and Keidean Coleman—during the trade period this month.
