Brisbane Roar’s Historic Slump Continues with Home Loss to Mariners

January 3, 2025 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Sports

Brisbane Roar Hit Rock Bottom After Humiliating Home Loss

Brisbane, Australia – The Brisbane Roar’s season has gone from bad to worse, hitting a new low with a demoralizing 3-1 defeat to the Central Coast Mariners at home on Friday. The loss marks the Roar’s eighth in their first ten games, setting a grim new record for the worst start in A-League history.

Adding insult to injury, the Roar remain winless at home, failing to secure even a single point in front of their own fans.

the night began disastrously for Brisbane, with an own goal from Walid Shour gifting the Mariners the led in the 11th minute.Ben Halloran briefly offered a glimmer of hope, equalizing for the Roar in the 71st minute with a stunning strike. However, the Mariners quickly extinguished any hopes of a comeback, with Harrison Steele and Arthur Oliviera finding the net in the closing stages to seal the victory.

To compound Brisbane’s misery, Hosine Bility was shown a straight red card in the 89th minute, leaving the Roar to finish the game with ten men. Substitute Rafael Struick, brought on in the 81st minute, was unable to inspire a late resurgence. The loss leaves the Roar languishing at the bottom of the A-League table with a paltry two points.

“It’s getting hard to be a Roar fan these days,” lamented one supporter after the game. “They’re losing games, they can’t score goals, and now they’ve got players getting sent off. What’s going on?”

The Roar face a daunting schedule in the coming weeks, and with confidence at an all-time low, it’s hard to see where their next win will come from. Can they turn things around, or are they destined for a season of despair? Only time will tell.

Roar Fans Asking “What’s Going On?” After Record-Breaking Loss

Liam: Did you catch that Roar game last night? I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

Jane: I saw the scoreline; 3-1 to the Mariners, right? That’s gotta be rough for Roar fans.

Liam: Rough is an understatement. Its the Roar’s eighth loss in ten games, Jane. Thay’ve officially set a new record for the worst start in A-League history.

Jane: Wow, that bad, huh? What happened?

Liam: It was a disaster from the start. they conceded an own goal in the 11th minute, which just set the tone for the night. They did manage to equalize with a great goal from Ben Halloran, but the Mariners just seemed to want it more.

Jane: Was it just a case of the Mariners playing well, or did the Roar look out of sorts?

Liam: Honestly, both. The Mariners looked sharper, more organized. But the Roar just seem to lack confidence at the moment. They’re making basic errors, and they can’t buy a goal at home.

Jane: And to make it worse, they got a red card in injury time, didn’t they?

Liam: Yeah, Hosine Bility was sent off. That’s just adding insult to injury. They looked wholly demoralized at the end.

Jane: Poor Brisbane fans. Must be hard to watch this unfold.

Liam: You have no idea. I overheard some fans after the game saying they’d lost faith.

They can’t seem to score goals, can’t keep a clean sheet, and they’re letting themselves down with silly mistakes. It’s only going to get harder from hear, too.Their next few games are against some tough opponents.

Jane: Do you think they can turn things around?

Liam: I don’t know, Jane. Right now, it’s hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Fingers crossed they can find some form soon, otherwise, this could be a very long season for the Roar.
