British Airways Unveils Luxurious New First Class Seats by Collins Aerospace
British Airways Introduces New First Class Seats
British Airways (BA) has announced new first class seats made by Collins Aerospace, based in Northern Ireland. BA is the only European airline to offer first class on flights between London and the US.
The updated first class cabin will create a “modern luxury hotel feel.” These features include home comforts and distinct British touches. This is the first redesign of BA’s first class seating since 2020. The cost per seat is about £100,000.
The new “suites” will be arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. Each suite offers a wider and longer seat, a 32-inch TV screen, and a personal luggage space. Bluetooth connectivity allows passengers to use their own wireless headphones or those provided by BA.
The new seats will debut on BA’s Airbus A380 fleet, expected to be in service by early 2026. This launch is part of a £7 billion (€8.4 billion) upgrade to the onboard experience.
The new seats measure three feet wide and convert into flat beds measuring 79 inches in length. Passengers can enjoy adjustable mood lighting with options such as ‘relax’, ‘dine’, and ‘cinema’. The suites have privacy walls and a slatted door that lets passengers see outside.
In these suites, travelers flying together can open a divider to create a shared lounge space for dining. Window blinds can be controlled via an internal panel. A “do not disturb” option notifies crew when engaged.
Storage space includes a leather-lined exterior wardrobe for a full-sized suitcase and a cupboard for a rucksack or handbag.
Calum Laming, BA’s chief customer officer, stated, “We’re incredibly proud to launch the next era of First that pushes the boundaries of comfort and luxury.” He emphasized the combination of world-class service and exclusive benefits for first class passengers.
BA worked with London-based design agency Tangerine for this cabin update. The aircraft’s new seats will feature luxury materials from leading British manufacturers, including Scottish leather specialist Muirhead.
Details on the specific routes where these new suites will operate have not yet been disclosed. Currently, A380 flights from London serve destinations in the US, including Chicago, Miami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Boston.
