Jessica Cariad Hopkins, a 34-year-old British national, died from multiple stab wounds in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on the evening of August 29, 2024. Authorities discovered her body in the Chamkarmon district around 11:40 PM local time.
Cambodian police have arrested a suspect, Kidikila nganda Glodie, believed to be from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in connection with the murder. Glodie was apprehended on Saturday afternoon at a hair salon in the Daun Penh area, approximately 1.5 miles from the crime scene.
Examination and Potential Motive
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a personal dispute involving romantic jealousy, according to Chuon Narin, police commissioner for Phnom Penh. The incident appears to be linked to a love triangle.
Ms. hopkins had been residing in Siem Reap but was temporarily staying in a rented property in the Chroy Changvar district of Phnom Penh at the time of her death.
Official Response
The British Foreign,Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is providing support to Ms. hopkins’ family and is in contact with local authorities. A spokesperson for the FCDO confirmed their assistance on August 31, 2024.
