Bronx Bus Crash Injures Eight, Examination Underway

At least eight people sustained minor injuries on Monday, December 9, 2024, when a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) bus lost control and collided with multiple vehicles in the Bronx. The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on East 163rd Street, near the intersection with Cauldwell Avenue.
Emergency Braking and Chain Reaction
According to police reports, the driver, a 63-year-old woman, applied the emergency brakes on the Bx 6 bus, causing it to veer out of control. The bus then proceeded to strike a series of cars – both occupied and unoccupied – over a four-block stretch before finally coming to a stop. The cause of the initial emergency brake application remains under investigation.
Extent of the damage and Injuries
Emergency responders transported some of the injured, including the bus driver, to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed that all eight individuals are expected to make a full recovery. The crash resulted in importent damage to the bus, with the windshield shattered and the front door wholly destroyed.
