Investigation and Arrests
The New York Police Department (NYPD) identified 21-year-old Amuri Greene as the suspected shooter. According to a court complaint, Greene was riding on the back of a moped when he fired into a group of people on a street corner. Greene told police he had been aiming for another person in the crowd.
Greene was taken into custody shortly after the incident. During an arraignment on April 3, 2026, he pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges and was held without bail.
A second suspect, 18-year-old Matthew Rodriguez, was arrested on April 3, 2026, in Pennsylvania. The arrest was the result of a joint operation between NYPD detectives and U.S. Marshals.
Details of the Incident
Kaori Patterson-Moore was seated in a double stroller alongside her brother when the gunfire occurred. Her mother, 20-year-old Lianna Charles-Moore, reported that she initially believed the sounds were fireworks.
While comforting her son, who had jumped out of the stroller, Charles-Moore discovered her daughter bleeding from a gunshot wound to the head. The 2-year-old son was also grazed in the back by a bullet.
Following the shooting, the child’s father rushed Kaori to a local hospital, but she did not survive. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the event as a tragedy that truly shocks the conscience.
The infant’s grandmother, identified as Arlene, who lives across the street from the scene, described the family as devastated. Family members remembered Kaori as a bubbly baby who was always laughing
and had recently begun saying Mama.
