A⁣ 61-year-old carer faces manslaughter charges following ‍a single-vehicle crash in Brooloo, Queensland, that killed two elderly passengers. Stuart Daryl Gray, from Valdora,⁣ was driving a Suzuki‍ Kizashi when it collided with a tree on Callemonda Road near Mary valley ⁣Road, about 170km north of Brisbane, around 2 p.m. Monday, according to authorities.

The passengers, an 83-year-old man from ⁤Kandanga and an ⁣85-year-old woman from Gympie, were pronounced dead at the scene.Gray sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Sunshine Coast University Hospital.He is now under police guard.

Police allege the driver knew the passengers⁤ in a professional capacity, acting as their carer. Superintendent Brad⁤ Inskip stated‍ that the⁣ crash is now believed⁢ to be a intentional act, not an accident. The victims were reportedly related,and the driver was employed as their carer.

The case was mentioned in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday, where bail was not requested. The matter⁤ is scheduled to return to court on May ‍29.
