Bruce Springsteen is set to release “Tracks II” on June 27, a seven-album collection of rarities. A preview track, “Adelita,” pays tribute to the female Mexican “soldaderas” who played a meaningful role in the country’s fight for independence. The song is part of “Yours,” a compilation of previously unreleased material written in the mid-1990s during Springsteen’s “The Ghost of Tom Joad” era, a period when he wasn’t working with the E Street Band.
Springsteen described “Yours” as a project born from long drives in California, specifically along the California aqueduct and through Inyo County en route to Yosemite or Death Valley. He said he enjoyed writing in that style so much that he continued even after “The Ghost of Tom Joad” tour, intending to create a similar follow-up album, which ultimately didn’t happen. He considers “Yours” one of his favorite works.
While “Yours” is primarily a solo endeavor for springsteen, it dose feature contributions from mariachi musicians Luis Villalobos, Alberto Villalobos, Angel Ramos, Humberto Manuel Flores gutierrez, David Glukh, Jorge Espinosa, and Miguel ponce.
“Tracks II,” released by Columbia, spans decades of unreleased recordings. It includes sessions from 1983, between the albums “Nebraska” and “Born in the U.S.A.,” and also a complete album that originated from work on the theme song for the 1993 film “philadelphia.”
Currently, Springsteen and the E Street Band are touring Europe until early July. Springsteen’s onstage remarks about former President donald Trump have recently garnered national attention. An EP featuring these speeches is available on digital platforms.
