Springsteen, Paul McCartney Share Liverpool Stage for Beatles’ Songs
Updated June 8, 2025
Bruce Springsteen’s recent Liverpool concerts marked his first performances in the city, famously known as the birthplace of the Beatles. During his second show Saturday at Anfield stadium, Paul McCartney joined Springsteen and the E Street Band for an encore.
Springsteen introduced McCartney by saying, “Thank you Liverpool. You’re lucky tonight, we have a young man, a local young man from Liverpool, he’s gonna play with us tonight, I think he has a lot of talent, and I believe he’s gonna be going places. So let’s bring out Paul McCartney.”
The collaboration featured a rendition of the Beatles’ classic “Can’t Buy Me Love,” marking the first time Springsteen and the band have played the song live. They followed with “Kansas City,” popularized by Little Richard and later covered by the Beatles.
The two rock legends have shared the stage several times. Previous collaborations include performances at London’s Hyde Park in July 2012 and New York’s Madison Square Garden in September 2017, where they played “I Saw Her Standing There.” They also performed together at McCartney’s East Rutherford,N.J., show in June 2022, playing “I Wanna Be Your Man” and “Glory Days,” and at Glastonbury a week later.
