Lakeland’s Hidden Gem: Community Garden Blooms wiht Local Support
Lakeland, FL – Tucked away in a quiet corner of Lakeland, a vibrant community garden is flourishing, thanks to the dedication of local residents and the support of Lakeland PBS. the “Growing Together” garden, located behind the Lakeland Public Library, is more than just a patch of land; it’s a testament to the power of community and a source of fresh, healthy food for those in need.
“This garden is a true labour of love,” says Maria Sanchez, a volunteer who has been tending to the plots since it’s inception. “We started with just a few raised beds, and now we have over 20,bursting with tomatoes, peppers, herbs, and more.”
The “Growing Together” garden was born from a desire to address food insecurity in the community. Lakeland PBS, recognizing the need, partnered with local organizations and residents to create a space where people could grow their own food and connect with their neighbors.
“We believe that everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food,” says Sarah Jones, Lakeland PBS Community Outreach Coordinator. “This garden not only provides that, but it also fosters a sense of community and empowers individuals to take control of their own well-being.”

“I never thought I could grow my own food,” says John Davis, a first-time gardener who joined the project last spring. “But the volunteers hear have been so helpful, and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see my plants thrive.”
The “Growing Together” garden is a shining example of how community collaboration can create positive change. It’s a place where neighbors come together, share their knowledge, and reap the rewards of their collective effort.
Lakeland PBS is proud to support this initiative and encourages everyone to get involved.Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a curious beginner, there’s a place for you in the “Growing Together” community.
