BU’s New Computing & Data Sciences Centre receives Transformative Gift
Boston University‘s commitment to cutting-edge research in computing and data sciences received a major boost with a generous gift from the Duan family. The donation will establish the Duan Family center for Computing & Data Sciences, endow fellowships for distinguished faculty and PhD candidates, and seed innovative research initiatives.
The declaration was made at a celebratory ceremony on December 5th, where BU officials and members of the Duan family gathered to mark this momentous occasion.
“It is indeed a privilege of a lifetime for me to stand up here…as we celebrate the dream coming true,” said Azer Bestavros, William Fairfield Warren professor and associate provost for computing and data sciences, expressing his gratitude for the Duan family’s generosity.
The Duan family’s gift will have a profound impact on the University’s ability to attract and retain top talent in the field. The inaugural Duan Fellows, Wesley Wildman and Mark covella, were also recognized at the ceremony. Wildman holds a joint appointment at the School of Theology, while Covella is affiliated with the College of Arts & Sciences, highlighting the interdisciplinary nature of the Center’s work.
“This gift will allow us to push the boundaries of knowledge and make significant contributions to society,” said Gloria Waters, BU’s provost and chief academic officer.
