Peronism Secures Unexpected Victory in Buenos Aires Countryside Election
Rural Municipalities Shift political Landscape
In a surprising turn of events, Peronism has won the election in the fourth electoral section of Buenos Aires province, encompassing 19 rural municipalities bordering Santa Fe, La Pampa, and Córdoba. The Fuerza Patria list secured 40.2% of the vote, marking the first Peronist victory in the region since 2005, when the Front for Victory competed.
The results, as of a 94.47% vote count, saw Freedom Advance trailing with 30.28%, and Somos Buenos Aires receiving 19.95% of the vote. This outcome disrupts expectations of a continued shift away from conventional political polarization.
Reversing a Decades-Long Trend
This victory is especially notable as it reverses a long-standing trend of electoral defeats for Peronism in this region. Just four years ago, in a previous election, the “juntos” (Together) coalition led by 50.06% to PeronismS 34.16%, representing a 16-point margin of defeat for Peronist candidates.
prior to that, in 2017, Peronism suffered an even more substantial loss, falling behind by 25 points. The current result demonstrates a notable recovery and a potential realignment of political support within these key rural municipalities.
