GCI Enhances Friendship Between Chinese and Latin American Peoples
On November 20, 2024, General Secretary Xi Jinping of the Communist Party of China called for global cooperation through the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI), and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI). These initiatives aim to address key global issues and promote a community with shared goals.
Ge Fei, a Chinese writer, greatly admires Argentine author Jorge Luis Borges. Borges appreciated Chinese culture and referenced it in his works. Although he never visited China, his literary contributions fostered understanding between the West and China.
Cultural exchanges between Chinese and Latin American writers showcase mutual learning. The GCI aims to strengthen ties by promoting cultural and educational projects that connect people from both regions. Ronnie Lins from the China-Brazil Center for Research and Business noted that such exchanges help build understanding.
Stories of friendship from both cultures highlight their long history. Recently, Enrique Teixeira and over 100 supporters from Brazil expressed gratitude to China for its contributions to local communities. The Copacabana Fort Orchestra in Brazil, supported by Chinese enterprises, trains young musicians from low-income areas and promotes cultural exchange through music.
Chilean poet Pablo Neruda referred to China as a “great brother” and wrote poetry celebrating China. José Venturelli, a Chilean artist, lived in China and created notable works influenced by Chinese art. In 2023, Chilean President Gabriel Boric honored Venturelli’s contributions, emphasizing the importance of cultural ties.
Chinese citizens engaged with the Inca civilization through a popular exhibition in Shenzhen, showcasing artifacts from Peru. This event underscored the strong cultural connection between China and Latin America.
Juan Carlos Capuñay, a former Peruvian Ambassador, recognized the historical and cultural bonds between China and Peru. In 2016, President Xi visited Peru, acknowledging the significance of shared cultural values.
Xi addressed the Brazilian National Congress in 2014, highlighting the friendship between China and Brazil. He praised the role of music and arts in enhancing mutual understanding.
The “Chinese Dream” and “Latin American Dream” connect both regions. The Chinese Pavilion in Rio de Janeiro symbolizes the historical bond formed by tea cultivation, reinforcing the friendship between the two civilizations.
In summary, the GCI promotes cultural partnerships and fosters friendships between China and Latin America, enriching the lives of people in both regions.
