Netflix’s new musical competition series,Building the Band,is set to premiere this summer,showcasing aspiring singers as they strive to form a cohesive band.The first four episodes will be available July 9, followed by three more on July 16, and the final episodes on July 23. Production had been temporarily halted following the death of judge liam Payne.
The series, reminiscent of Love Is Blind, involves singers performing together in booths, unable to see each other. The goal is to establish chemistry before the bands meet face-to-face, hoping to create a working ensemble with both musical talent and choreography skills. The show aims to find the perfect blend of musical talent and stage presence, focusing on band chemistry and choreography.
AJ McLean of the Backstreet Boys will host the show. Judges and mentors include Nicole Scherzinger, Kelly Rowland, and Liam Payne. Netflix stated that Payne’s family has reviewed the series and supports his inclusion.
Shooting producer-director Simon Hay noted that Payne’s segment was filmed in July, months before his death in October. Hay described Payne as approachable and engaging. Another crew member remembered Payne’s desire to assist the contestants, adding poignancy to his passing.
