Understanding the Currency Transition
On January 1, 2024, Bulgaria officially adopted the Euro as its currency, replacing the Bulgarian Lev. This change impacts developers selling apps and In-App Purchases (IAPs) on the Bulgaria App Store.Apple is implementing changes to pricing, reporting, and refunds to align with this transition.
Pricing on the Bulgaria storefront will be converted to the Euro using standard equalization practices for Eurozone markets subject to Value-Added Tax (VAT). This ensures consistent pricing across the Eurozone.
Pricing Updates and Auto-Renewable Subscriptions
Developers have the flexibility to adjust the prices of their apps,IAPs,and auto-renewable subscriptions at any time. However, specific considerations apply to subscriptions.
Auto-renewable subscriptions will continue uninterrupted.Subscription prices will be automatically updated to reflect Euro pricing for current, preserved, and future scheduled price tiers. Customers with existing auto-renewable subscriptions will receive an email notification informing them of the currency change.
Dual Pricing Requirement (Lev and Euro)
In accordance with the euro Act, developers are legally required to display both the Lev and Euro prices for all In-App Purchases within their apps. This dual-pricing requirement is in effect from the date of the currency change until August 8, 2026. This messaging must be prominently displayed wherever prices are shown to customers.
Reporting and Financial Updates
Apple’s reporting systems will also be updated to reflect the currency change:
- Sales and Trends: Transactions occurring after the currency change will be reported in Euros.
- monthly Financial Reports: Earnings from sales before the currency change will appear in the Bulgarian (BG) report. Earnings from sales after the currency change will be reported in the Eurozone (EU) report.
Refunds in Euro
All refunds issued on or after January 1, 2026, will be processed in Euros, regardless of the original purchase date. This ensures consistency in refund processing following the full transition.
