PM Urges​ Glencore to Back Mt Isa Amid Copper Mine Closure⁢ News

Kennedy MP ⁣Bob Katter has​ directly appealed to Prime ⁤Minister Anthony‍ albanese ‌regarding the impending closure of‌ the Mt Isa copper mine, ⁢a move that has⁤ sent ripples‌ of concern through the Queensland community. The mining giant Glencore⁣ has confirmed⁤ its intention to place ⁢its major Mount Isa and⁢ Townsville operations into care and maintenance mode, a decision that‌ directly‍ impacts the ‌livelihoods of many.In response,Prime Minister Albanese has acknowledged the gravity of the situation for the affected workers.He revealed that the relevant minister has been actively engaged in discussions with Glencore concerning​ the⁤ future of the mine.

The‍ Prime Minister emphasized that⁣ the duty for addressing the mine’s closure does not rest solely with ⁤the government. He stressed the crucial role that companies like Glencore must play in investing in⁣ and transforming such vital facilities.
