Burkina Faso Takes Action: Ministry Launches Proximity Control Campaign to Protect the Environment
Protecting the Ozone Layer: Burkina Faso’s Ministry of Environment Takes Action
Ouagadougou, September 18, 2024 - The Ministry of Environment in Burkina Faso has planned a proximity control campaign to monitor companies and structures that import and market refrigerants and equipment containing them, in commemoration of the 37th International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer.
According to the Minister of Environment, Roger Baro, “To mark the culmination of the 37th day in Burkina Faso, my department will lead a local campaign for the control of companies and/or structures that import and market refrigerators and the equipment that contains them.”
The Burkinabè government will also organize refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance workshops in Ouagadougou.
The 37th International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer is celebrated under the theme: “Montreal Protocol: Promoting climate action”. The choice of theme is justified by the persistence of the use of substances that deplete the ozone layer, including hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) type gases, and the harmful effects of said gas emissions on the climate.
Burkina Faso has remained committed to achieving favorable political and institutional reforms and developing concrete initiatives on the ground. The country has established an environmental quality analysis laboratory and the management of the National Ozone Office (BNO).
The National Ozone Office is responsible for ensuring the technical implementation of the missions of the general directorate for environmental conservation in terms of coordination and monitoring of the Vienna Convention and its Montreal Protocol.
An open day of the National Ozone Office and vehicle refrigerant quality control and consumer awareness will also be held.
The International Day for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (IDPOC) is celebrated on September 16 every year.
