Typhoon Yagi Brings Devastating Floods to Burma
Many areas of Burma have been severely affected by the influence of Typhoon Yagi, resulting in high floods and reports of at least 19 deaths. Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate the affected areas.
Widespread Flooding in Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay
An area of approximately 162 square kilometers in Nay Pyi Taw, Burma’s capital, was hit by heavy flooding. Similarly, an area of 366 square kilometers in Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, was also affected by the flood. According to the Myanmar rescuers’ Facebook page, about 3,602 people from 30 locations were affected by the flood and received help from officers, with everyone being evacuated.

Death Toll and Missing Persons
According to Radio Free Asia, a non-profit company funded by the American government, the death toll from floods and landslides in Myanmar could be as high as 160 bodies. The actual number may be higher due to many people still missing. Most of the victims were found in Shan State, near Mandalay, including the cities of Naypyitaw and Bago, as well as the provinces of Kayah and Anglesey, which were also flooded.

The heavy rain was caused by the influence of Typhoon Yagi, which has brought severe storms to Asia this year. A total of more than 230 deaths have been reported in Vietnam and Thailand, with water in rivers overflowing and flooding communities in large areas.
