A 77-year-old British man died and 27 other people were injured after a tourist bus crashed into a ravine on the Spanish island of La Gomera on April 10, 2026.

The vehicle was traveling on the GM-2 road, a mountainous route characterized by sharp turns, when it left the road and fell approximately 10 meters down a slope. Emergency services reported that the crash occurred near a hairpin bend.

There were 28 people on board the bus, consisting of 27 British tourists and one driver. The group had been staying at a resort on the island and was traveling toward the San Sebastián de La Gomera dock to board a ferry to Tenerife.

Casualties and Medical Response

All 27 injured passengers were initially transported to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe on the east side of the island. Hospital management stated on the night of April 10 that 21 of the patients had been discharged.

Three individuals remained at the hospital under observation, while three others with serious injuries were transferred to hospitals in neighboring Tenerife. Among those airlifted for treatment were a 73-year-old man and a 42-year-old man, both of whom sustained multiple serious injuries.

Official Statements and Investigation

The bus was operated by Gomera Tours, a local company. When contacted by Reuters, a spokesperson for the company stated they did not wish to comment on the accident.

A spokesperson for the British Foreign Office confirmed they are supporting the family of the deceased man. The British foreign ministry stated it is in contact with local authorities and is ready to assist British nationals, adding, Our thoughts go out to those affected by this tragic incident.
