Bushra Bibi Granted Protective Bail by Peshawar High Court
The Peshawar High Court has granted protective bail to Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan. The court ordered that she not be arrested in any case for 14 days.
Bushra Bibi’s lawyer argued that cases have been registered against her in all four provinces, but the details of these cases are unknown. The lawyer requested that she not be arrested and that the court provide her with protection.
Justice Shakeel Ahmed questioned whether there were any cases against Bushra Bibi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her lawyer replied that she was not in the province, which is why she had come to the court.
Justice Sahibzada Asadullah asked if the court could provide a security guarantee if there were no cases against her in the province. Bushra Bibi’s lawyer emphasized that the law and the constitution guarantee every citizen’s security, and that the Peshawar High Court had also provided security guarantees in the past.
The court subsequently sought details of cases against Bushra Bibi from all relevant agencies, including the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court ordered that she not be arrested in any case for 14 days.
It is worth noting that the Islamabad High Court had previously approved Bushra Bibi’s bail in the Tosha Khana case on October 23. The next day, a judge of the special court in Islamabad issued a warrant for her release, and she was subsequently released from Adiala prison and arrived in Peshawar.
