Businessman Gleison Luís Menegildo paid bail of R$15,000 to get out of prison in Nova Granada (SP). He was arrested on Tuesday (27/8) for his role in the death of 16-year-old teenager Giovana Pereira Caetano de Almeida, who had been missing since December 2023.

In a statement to police, Gleison said he met the victim through a dating app about a year and a half ago. According to the deputy Ericson Sales Abufares, in an interview with TV HASthe businessman said that after meeting again for an internship interview, the teenager started using drugs in his presence. According to the police officer, Gleison said he returned and found Giovana feeling sick after using cocaine.

In desperation, he then decided to take the young man’s body to the farm, in Nova Granada, inside São Paulo, and bury him with the help of the caretaker Cleber Danilo Partezani. He admitted to the São Paulo Civil Police that he hid Giovana’s body. The confession allowed him to leave prison after paying R$15,000. In addition to Gleison, Cleber’s caretaker Danilo Partezani was also arrested and released from prison after admitting his involvement in hiding the teenager’s body and paying R$7,000.

Who was the victim

According to her mother, Giovana Pereira was a very intelligent and dedicated girl. Patrícia Alessandra Pereira said her daughter learned to speak English on her own and had the dream of going on exchange to Canada. “He won over everyone, he was outgoing and very determined to make his dreams come true,” said his mother.

Giovana was her best friend, Patrícia recalled. “We slept cuddled together, watched series together, with brigadeiro and popcorn.”

The mother said that the daughter finished high school, always studied in good schools and wanted to have her own money. “She always said she wanted to work, but I said there was no need, my children always had what they needed”, said Patrícia, noting that the family’s financial condition was good.

Patrícia has doubts about the businessman’s version. “I didn’t know she was asking him for an internship. “I doubt he was the one who told her to go to the place and take her CV. It is very easy to place the blame and all the responsibility on my daughter, that she went there, that she uses drugs, that she kisses men, that she wears inappropriate clothes, even though she wears jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers. They blame the only person who knows what happened and can’t tell”, he lamented.

Exchange messages

An exchange of messages took place in May 2023. Patrícia Alessandra Pereira said she looked at her daughter’s mobile phone and saw the contents of the conversation with Gleison. According to her mother, at the time, Giovana admitted that she had had a relationship with the businessman. “She said she had a relationship with him, that they had a relationship and that he offered her financial support. I told her she didn’t need that. He told me that he would not have met him again”, explained Patrícia.

Giovana’s last contact with her mother was on December 20, 2023, the day before she disappeared. “I spoke to her as usual on December 20th, but on the 21st she didn’t send me a message. I thought it was strange because we talked a lot. On the 22nd, she still didn’t answer me, and her mobile phone no longer received messages”, said the mother.

The mother fears that the businessman’s influence in the region could jeopardize the investigations. “Isn’t the law for everyone? I will continue to monitor the actions of the police closely. He destroyed my family, killed all his dreams”, said Patrícia.

The caretaker says he took orders from the boss

A caretaker from the farm where the young woman was buried said he admitted to the police that he had helped dig the grave. According to the police report, Cleber Danilo Partezani explained that the boss appeared on the farm on December 21, 2023 and asked him to dig a hole in a specific location on the property.

The businessman, according to the caretaker’s version, asked for confidentiality and admitted that he was going to bury a human body. However, the principal did not say whether it was a woman or a man, and he returned to the property on other occasions to practice shooting.

An expert examination of the scene and examinations at the Medical Legal Institute were requested. The case was registered as suspicious death, destruction, theft or concealment of a body and illegal possession of a firearm permitted to be used at the Nova Granada Police Station.
