BYD plans to commence local assembly of its SEALION 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle in Pakistan during the fourth quarter of 2026, according to official statements from the company and local partner Mega Motor Company (MMC). The production timeline marks a shift from importing new energy vehicles to establishing domestic manufacturing infrastructure.
The announcement came during the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2026, where BYD and Mega Motor Company outlined their joint manufacturing strategy. According to company executives, the SEALION 6 will be the first BYD vehicle assembled directly inside Pakistan.
Lei Jian, country head for BYD Pakistan, stated that the market response since the brand’s entry reinforced corporate confidence in the region. The planned local assembly of the BYD SEALION 6 is an important step in building a long-term presence in Pakistan and supporting the country’s transition towards new energy mobility,
Jian said, according to statements released at PAPS 2026.
Super DM-i Technology and Vehicle Specifications
Underpinning the SEALION 6 is BYD’s Super DM (Dual Mode) technology, which has recorded global sales exceeding 8.5 million units, according to company data provided in the coverage. The specific variant slated for Pakistan utilizes the Super DM-i (Dual Mode – intelligence) platform.
The intelligent hybrid system combines electric propulsion with a traditional combustion engine to yield a driving range of up to 1,100 kilometers on a single charge and tank. Danish Khaliq, vice president of sales and strategy for BYD Pakistan at Mega Motor Company, noted that the technology addresses everyday driving realities while mitigating range anxiety on extended trips.
As we move towards local assembly, we are not simply expanding our portfolio; we are helping shape what the next generation of mobility in Pakistan can look like,
Khaliq said, as reported by The Nation.
Broader Vehicle Lineup at PAPS 2026
Alongside the SEALION 6 production announcement, BYD displayed a wider portfolio of new energy vehicles to gauge consumer readiness. The exhibition lineup featured the BYD ATTO 2, designated by the companies as Pakistan’s most popular electric vehicle. The display also included the BYD SHARK 6 Anniversary Edition finished in Outback Orange, alongside the regional debut of DENZA, BYD’s luxury technology brand, represented by the B8 SUV model. According to Mega Motor Company, the multi-brand showcase is intended to introduce local buyers to electrified options spanning multiple market segments. The transition toward domestic manufacturing arrives as Pakistan’s automotive market observes gradual shifts in consumer demand away from conventional internal combustion engines toward electrified alternatives.
