Cadillac F1 Appoints Marcin Budkowski as Team Principal After Shaking Up Leadership

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team has appointed Marcin Budkowski as its new team principal, replacing Graeme Lowdon ahead of the team’s upcoming debut season, according to reports from Sky Sports and Performance Racing Industry.

The leadership change comes six months before the American-backed operation is scheduled to take its first start on the grid. According to Fox News, the team made the midseason management shift in a difficult operational period aimed at righting the ship before entering Grand Prix racing.

Leadership Shift and Management Experience

Graeme Lowdon had previously guided the project’s early development phases, drawing on past experience launching new operations such as Virgin Racing in 2010, as noted by Audioboom. Lowdon explained the team’s initial approach to building the car and preparing for the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, stating that the organization worked across both sides of the Atlantic Ocean with simulation tools and signed drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez.

However, the team opted for a leadership change, installing Budkowski to direct operations. According to Autoguide, the incoming management structure aims to leverage artificial intelligence and address reliability concerns that emerged during the development phase.

Technical Focus and Development Strategy

Cadillac has maintained an aggressive upgrade schedule during its preliminary phase. According to Formula1.com, Lowdon pointed out prior to his departure that the team brought a high volume of upgrades to the car compared to traditional entry timelines.

The team also experimented with distinct aesthetic designs, introducing a special livery to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, alongside a layout resembling their Miami testing presentation.
