CAF Awards 2024: Al-Ahli Wins Best Club, Lookman Named Best Player
Nigerian Star Ademola Lookman Crowned Africa’s best
Marrakesh, Morocco – In a night celebrating the continent’s finest footballing talent, Nigerian winger Ademola Lookman was named Africa’s Player of the Year at the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony held in Marrakesh. Lookman,who plays for Italian club Atalanta,beat out stiff competition from South africa’s Ronwen Williams,Côte d’Ivoire’s Simon adingra,Guinea’s Serho Djirasi,and Morocco’s achraf Hakimi.
The ceremony, held on Monday, December 16th, saw Egyptian powerhouse Al-Ahly crowned Africa’s Club of the Year, edging out rivals Zamalek and South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns.Lookman’s triumph capped a stellar year for the 26-year-old, who has been instrumental in Atalanta’s Serie A campaign.His electrifying pace, dribbling skills, and clinical finishing have made him a force to be reckoned with.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this award,” Lookman said. “It’s a dream come true to be recognized as the best player on the continent. I wont to thank my teammates, coaches, and everyone who has supported me on this journey.”
Simultaneously occurring, South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams enjoyed a successful night, claiming both the Africa Player of the Year award and the coveted African Goalkeeper of the year title. Williams’ notable performances for Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African national team earned him widespread acclaim.
The ceremony also saw the recognition of other outstanding African talent.
