Cafe Momentum, a Dallas-based nonprofit restaurant employing justice-involved youth, is poised for expansion with a new flagship location. The Meadows Foundation has donated one acre of land to facilitate the growth of the organization, which aims to provide culinary training and employment opportunities for young people aged 15-19. The current Dallas location, at 1510 Pacific Ave, has been named one of the “Top Ten Best New Restaurants in Dallas” by the Dallas Morning News.
The move, expected in 2026, will see Cafe Momentum vacate its current spot in downtown Dallas’ Thanksgiving Square after more than a decade of operation. The new location will serve as a national training center for the restaurant’s expansion, according to a statement released by the organization.
A Decade of Impact
For over ten years, Cafe Momentum has been dedicated to transforming the lives of justice-involved youth. The organization’s model focuses on equipping young people with life skills, education, and employment opportunities within the culinary arts. To date, Cafe Momentum has impacted nearly 1,700 lives, demonstrating the positive effects of community support and opportunity.
“Restaurants alone can’t transform the juvenile justice system, but they can reshape communities and futures—one meal, one person at a time,” states the organization’s website, cafemomentum.org. The program addresses a critical need, as the United States continues to have the highest youth confinement rates among developed nations, with approximately 36,500 youth under the age of 18 detained in juvenile facilities on any given day, as of the most recent data.
Flagship Expansion and Future Goals
The new flagship location is envisioned as a “learning location” and a national destination for youth development and justice reform. The organization is currently undertaking a “Dream Beyond Capital Campaign” to fund the expansion. With increased investment, Cafe Momentum aims to broaden its reach and impact, transforming more young lives across the country.
Cafe Momentum’s mission is to equip justice-involved youth with the tools they need to achieve their full potential. The organization’s success is rooted in its commitment to providing a supportive environment where young people can learn valuable skills and build brighter futures.
An upcoming event, the Dallas Sunday Supper Concert Series with Alejandro Escovedo on August 2, 2026, will further support Cafe Momentum’s initiatives.
